START A NEW THANKSGIVING DAY TRADITION

The first Thanksgiving was celebrated in the autumn of 1621. But did you know it did not become a national holiday until over 200 years later? That’s right, it was not until 1863 that President Lincoln made Turkey Day a national holiday. President Lincoln also declared the holiday to be celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November. Another Thanksgiving tradition began with President Truman–the pardoning of a turkey. In 1947, President Truman spared the first turkey from being eaten and since, every U.S. President selects a turkey to rescue from the fate of becoming someone’s dinner. Thanksgiving also sparked the invention of the TV dinner. In 1953, Swanson had so much turkey left over that they packaged turkey and other sides into aluminum trays and the TV dinner was born!

Here are our three reasons to celebrate Thanksgiving with Waterways:

1) Start a new tradition. While the holiday season is often rooted in tradition, think about starting a new tradition this year by bringing your celebration to the water! Take advantage of the beautiful landscape we live in while cruising on Lake Washington and Lake Union. You’ll see gorgeous views of Seattle and the surrounding area and create memories shared with your family and friends!
2) Relax. Bring more relaxation into your Thanksgiving celebration. Let Waterways do all of the work while you enjoy a two-and-a-half-hour cruise! It’s an all-inclusive dinner cruise experience, complete with a delicious traditional Thanksgiving buffet, drinks for purchase, our Captain’s narration of sights and unbeatable views.  And, there’s no cleanup for you!
3) Food and Drinks. Our talented Executive Chef has created an extraordinary festive buffet with all your Thanksgiving favorites to enjoy! Our mixologist has also created a fun fall cocktail menu to compliment your meal. What better way to spend the holiday than with good food, drinks and great company!

Happy Thanksgiving!
