Valentine’s Day is coming up and here I am, waiting for my Prince Charming. Busy people at Waterways are getting ready for the romantic dinner cruises. They are ordering champagne, flowers and red rose petals, baking cakes and dipping ripe strawberries into delicious rich chocolate. The Chef has created a very special menu just for the Valentine’s Dinner Cruises. Can you believe all this fuss for just one evening! In the meantime, I am sitting here all alone, and I have no date!

I have to say, I don’t understand why people invented this holiday. As far as the story goes, a very long time ago, Claudius II, the Roman Emperor, decided that married soldiers make soft warriors. So he outlawed marriage! But, a priest, later named St. Valentine, disobeyed the rule and performed secret weddings for soldiers. Of course, he eventually got caught! While in prison, he fell in love with the blind daughter of his jailer. The legend says he cured her and on the night before his execution, wrote a love note to her, signed “From Your Valentine”. Sound familiar? Then, people take this sad, tragic story and somehow turn it into a romantic holiday full of chocolate candy and love cards?
Happy couples are going to show up for our Valentine’s Dinner Cruises, look at the beautiful views, hold hands, enjoy their aphrodisiac lobster bisque, and tell each other how special they are. Some are even going to propose!

My mom says that I am too young to date. But, as a 6 year old dog, I am old enough to make my own decisions. I found a picture of this handsome Maltese Bichon and I hope we can get together some day for a walk in a park, if mom agrees. Don’t we look like a perfect match? He looks a little young, but I don’t think it matters, do you?

I do hope there is a “Happily Ever After” for us. But, enough about me. Happy Valentine’s Day to all of you dear Waterways fans!
